Where We Serve

Since 2002, ChIME has educated and ordained 186 Interfaith Ministers who serve in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and in a number of other states. Each has fulfilled the ChIME requirements for graduation, including 500 hours of classroom time, and 300 hours of volunteer and internship service.

Incoming students often bring with them the desire to serve a particular community or to serve children, women, or men, or people who are incarcerated, ill, in transition, marginalized, unhoused, dying, or addicted. Sometimes, students will develop their own strategy for addressing a need they have identified in their community. At other times, students will volunteer within an existing organization or program.

In recent years, students have volunteered at Sophia’s House, St. Mary’s Hospital, Volunteers of America, Fireside Project, Cathedral in the Night, Jeanne Geiger Crisis Services, Midcoast Hospital, Summerhill Assisted Living, Maine Equal Justice, and First Congregational Church of Kennebunkport.

Increasingly, local agencies are reaching out to ChIME for the volunteer services of a student chaplain. If you work for an agency that would benefit from a student chaplain, please email admin@chimeofmaine.org.

ChIME alumni also offer life ceremonies and other services to individuals and families. For a list of Alumni in your region, please visit Find a ChIME Alum
